Here are a few action items to consider once you have your results. These recommendations reflect industry best practices for responding to climate assessment outcomes, These recommendations reflect industry best practices for responding to climate assessment outcomes, facilitating the translation of results into actionable steps.
1. Understanding Your Results.
- Review Your Results: Start by thoroughly examining the data. Ask critical questions: What are we doing well? Where can we improve? Were there any surprises? Are there differing opinions among subgroups?
- Read the Written Comments: Written comments provide essential context and highlight areas for improvement, helping to formulate effective action plans.
2. Identify Quick Wins.
- Spot Immediate Improvements: Identify any straightforward, easy-to-implement changes that can quickly show employees their feedback is valued. Quick wins can boost morale and demonstrate the organization’s commitment to improvement.
- Prioritize Short-term Actions: Look for actions that require minimal resources but can have a significant positive impact. This might include small policy adjustments, improvements in communication, or addressing simple logistical issues.
3. Share the Results with Your Team.
- Communicate Findings: Share high-level results with all employees, emphasizing that their feedback is valued and will be acted upon. Involve key leaders in the decision-making and implementation processes.
- Explain Next Steps: Clearly explain what changes (quick wins) will be made, why some suggestions might not be implemented, and what steps will be taken to inform improvement plans. This transparency shows that you value employee input and can boost participation in future assessments.
4. Validate the Results.
- Use Multiple Methods: Complement the survey results with focus groups, interviews, and observations to gain deeper insights and validate the findings. These methods can uncover the root causes of issues and suggest actionable solutions.
5. Develop and Implement an Improvement Plan.
- Identify Action Areas: Determine which areas need further action. Consider both the favorability scores and the driver analysis results. This helps focus your efforts on the most impactful changes.
- Act on Feedback: Show employees that their voices matter by creating achievable goals and strategies. Focus on addressing one or two areas at a time for more manageable and effective change.
- Set Priorities: Identify what is most critical for the organization’s success and use employee feedback to generate actionable ideas.
6. Establish an Action Team if Needed.
- Form a Team: Create a team to brainstorm and implement changes, including key organizational leaders to ensure buy-in and sustainability of improvements.
- Tap into Employee Resource Groups: Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) may already exist in your organization, so they may be a good place to begin when looking for a team of people who want to be involved with after-survey action items.
7. Follow Up and Evaluate Changes.
- Conduct Follow-ups: Perform follow-up assessments within six months to a year to measure the effectiveness of the changes. Quick polls can also help track progress.
- Keep Employees Informed: Regularly update employees on the progress and outcomes of the changes. This fosters trust and encourages participation in future assessments.
Whether the feedback reveals strengths or areas needing improvement, it’s all geared toward fostering positive changes. Effectively leveraging survey results can boost organizational responsiveness and readiness, paving the way for productive discussions and actions.
By following these steps, your organization can ensure it not only listens to employee feedback but translates the results action.
